You Are Not Ready

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #8

The prom queen's belief that she is ready to be Vice President and that she is ready to step in as President if needed shows just how little regard she has for this country. (Should that be a surprise considering her past association with the Alaskan Independence Party?) In her first major interview with the traditional media, Charlie Gibson asked her point blank if she was ready for the job.
GIBSON: Governor, let me start by asking you a question that I asked John McCain about you, and it is really the central question. Can you look the country in the eye and say “I have the experience and I have the ability to be not just vice president, but perhaps president of the United States of America?”

PALIN: I do, Charlie, and on January 20, when John McCain and I are sworn in, if we are so privileged to be elected to serve this country, will be ready. I’m ready.

GIBSON: And you didn’t say to yourself, “Am I experienced enough? Am I ready? Do I know enough about international affairs? Do I — will I feel comfortable enough on the national stage to do this?”

PALIN: I didn’t hesitate, no.

GIBSON: Didn’t that take some hubris?

PALIN: I — I answered him yes because I have the confidence in that readiness and knowing that you can’t blink, you have to be wired in a way of being so committed to the mission, the mission that we’re on, reform of this country and victory in the war, you can’t blink. So I didn’t blink then even when asked to run as his running mate.
She didn't blink? She should have. She wasn't being asked to carry the neighbor's kids to hockey practice. She wasn't being asked to find a job on the bureaucracy for a family friend. She was asked to serve in a position that might lead to her being the leader of the free world. I would think this should be cause for reflection.

Hubris doesn't begin to cover this claim. It is ridiculous and she knows it and she accepted the position anyway. God help us all if The Maverick and The MILF end up running the country.

Obama is an Extremist!!!!

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #7
As a state senator, Barack Obama wouldn't even stand up for the rights of infants born alive during an abortion. These infants, often babies with special needs, are simply left to die.
Here we go again. The prom queen, whose anti-choice positions on abortion are far outside the American mainstream, is trying to paint Barack Obama as the extremist on abortion. This time, she decided not to employ an indisputable lie. Her words are more nuanced and careful. (A sure indication that someone else crafted them.) What she left out was context. The law that Obama voted against would have essentially outlawed abortion in Illinois. We'll let Barack defend himself. As this quote from the Illinois Senate floor from 2001 proves, he doesn't need our help.
Whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal-protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a child, a 9-month-old child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal-protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute.

Does She Not Understand What Unethical Means?

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #6
I’m very, very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing ... any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that.
Perhaps the prom queen is a pathological liar? How can the above quote be interpreted as anything other than a lie? The prom queen was discussing a report into her alleged abuses of office, specifically the dismissal of Walt Monegan, the former Alaska Public Safety Commissioner. The scandal has become known as TrooperGate. The report was the result of that investigation. What was the conclusion of the investigators? According to the New York Times ...

“Such impermissible and repeated contacts,” the report states, “create conflicts of interests for subordinate employees who must choose to either please a superior or run the risk of facing that superior’s displeasure and the possible consequences of that displeasure.” The report concludes that the action was a violation of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.

It would seem to me that when you have committed a violation of an Ethics Act ... well ... wouldn't that mean that you were not, in fact, "cleared ... of any kind of unethical activity there"? While I don't think much of the prom queen's intellect, I do believe that she understands the difference between unethical and ethical. I'm forced to conclude that the above quote is just another lie in a long line of lies, and that while she understands the difference between ethical and unethical activity, she just doesn't care.

Churches

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #5
To tell you the truth, Bill, I don't know why that association isn't discussed more, because those were appalling things that that pastor had said about our great country, and to have sat in the pews for 20 years and listened to that — with, I don't know, a sense of condoning it, I guess, because he didn't get up and leave — to me, that does say something about character. But, you know, I guess that would be a John McCain call on whether he wants to bring that up. (Source)
If Sarah Palin wants to bring Obama's former pastor into the limelight, then I think we should bring Palin's church into the national conversation as well. The video is below. I'd comment, but snark fails me.

I Know Hillary Clinton

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #4

From an interview on Hannity & Colmes on Sept. 17, 2008 ...
In fact, I don't agree with all of it. But there are some things that Hillary Clinton did that nobody can take away from her. And that is the 18 million cracks that she put there in that highest and hardest glass ceiling in America's political scene. She was able to affect that and I respect that.
To paraphrase Llyod Bentsen, I know Hillary Clinton and you're no Hillary Clinton. That's an understatement. The prom queen shouldn't even be allowed to mention Senator Clinton's name. Hillary Clinton is one of the most accomplished women in the history of the American political scene. She was a successful lawyer devoted to helping children. She worked as first lady to bring health care to all Americans (ruined by Republicans). She proved herself a fighter standing up to the most vicious and despicable right wing assault yet unleashed. She is now one of our most capable and determined Senators.

Hillary Clinton came as close as you can come to being the nominee for President, and not actually receive the nomination. She accomplished this, not because some old guy at the top of the ticket wanted to shake things up and maybe still a Clinton vote or two, not simply because she's a woman, but because she's among our best. The prom queen cannot live up to that standard.

Un-American

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #3
Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country. (Source)
Perhaps the prom queen is the last person who should speak about this. She lays next to a man every night who, for the best part of a decade, belonged to a political party whose entire existence was based on the idea of Alaska seceding from the United States of America. Palin also appears to have had a rather cozy relationship with the AIP herself. What could possibly be more un-American than seeking to leave the union? Why would members of the AIP be seeking to secede from the union of they don't see America as being less than perfect? Perhaps she would like to answer this? (Source)

The Moral Crusader

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #2
I am pro-life and I believe that marriage should only be between and man and a woman. I am opposed to any expansion of gambling in Alaska.
The above quote was posted to the prom queen's campaign website in 2006. I'm not even sure where to begin with this one. "I am pro-life". As I've pointed out before, she brags about her choice to have Trig and her daughter's choice to keep her baby, yet she would remove the right to choose from other women.

"(M)arriage should only be between a man and a woman." Why? Are your reasons religious? In the US, that wouldn't really matter unless the government was forcing your church to perform gay marriages. Do you think its a threat to traditional families? How? If gay people are granted the right to marry across the country, would it destroy your marriage? Would that cheapen the relationship between you and the First Dude in any way?

Conservative opposition to gambling is a lot like conservative opposition to sex. Do they really think they can get rid of it?

Putin Rears His Head

8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #1
As Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the United States of America, where– where do they go? It's Alaska. It's just right over the border.
Sometimes, there's a simpler way to go. "Well Katie, I don't have much foreign policy experience, but I have served in an executive capacity, I'm a quick study, and if, God forbid, something should happen to John McCain, I'll ensure that I'm surrounded by the best and brightest minds in all of government." How much better would that have sounded?

Any question about the prom queen's foreign policy experience puts the McCain camp on the defensive. For good reason. It's one thing to lack experience, it's another thing altogether to lack interest, especially when seeking election to the White House.

Watch the video.
