8 Despicable Sarah Palin Quotes #7As a state senator, Barack Obama wouldn't even stand up for the rights of infants born alive during an abortion. These infants, often babies with special needs, are simply left to die.
Here we go again. The prom queen, whose anti-choice positions on abortion are far outside the American mainstream, is trying to paint
Barack Obama as the extremist on abortion. This time, she decided not to employ an indisputable lie. Her words are more nuanced and careful. (A sure indication that someone else crafted them.) What she left out was context. The law that Obama voted against would have essentially outlawed abortion in Illinois. We'll let Barack defend himself. As this quote from the Illinois Senate floor from 2001 proves,
he doesn't need our help.
Whenever we define a previable fetus as a person that is protected by the equal-protection clause or the other elements in the Constitution, what we're really saying is, in fact, that they are persons that are entitled to the kinds of protections that would be provided to a child, a 9-month-old child that was delivered to term. That determination then, essentially, if it was accepted by a court, would forbid abortions to take place. I mean, it would essentially bar abortions, because the equal-protection clause does not allow somebody to kill a child, and if this is a child, then this would be an antiabortion statute.
