Yes, Gov. Blagojevich is scum. Yes, the process is tainted. Yes, Mr. Burris's acceptance of the appointment smears him with the taint.

However, the law is the law and as of right now, Illinois state law allows the Governor to appoint the next Senator. This is Blagojevich's right. Let Mr. Burris in and primary him hard in 2010. The country has more pressing matters in front of it.

Rep. Danny Davis is a honorable man. That's not to say Roland Burris isn't; I don't have a clue yet about him. However, what Davis did took real guts.
