This Thing Still Bothers Me

Yes, I'm not done talking about that bigot Rick Warren.

I say again, Barack Obama's choice of Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at this inauguration is a slap in the face to progressives everywhere.

It is a direct slap in the face of the gay and lesbian community. Rick Warren has even compared homosexual marriage to be no different than incest or polygamy.

It is a direct slap in the face of the progressive religious community. Obama has chosen to reinforce the notion that "Religious = Conservative". There are so many wonderful and progressive religious leaders across this country who would have better represented those who elected Obama.

It is a direct slap in the face of anyone who values the truth in their public discourse since Warren chose to lie to anyone who would listen about the impact of Proposition 8 in California.

While it may certainly be true that Rick Warren represents the best of the evangelicals, it does not make him the right man for this job. I applaud the work he has done in Africa. I believe that much of his outreach to progressives as well as to those of other religions to be genuine. He seems to be a very likable guy. Still, he is, simply, the best face for the other side.

I say again, if Mr. Warren was using the same type of language to argue against, for example, interracial marriage, he would not even be considered for this spot. He would be ridiculed. He would be marginalized. I have to ask again, why has Barack Obama granted him this spot?

It could be worse. He could have asked Billy Graham's idiot son, Franklin Graham, to deliver the invocation.

Idiot

Thanks to Dr. Krugman for pointing us to this article on the MSNBC web site with an awesome Rick Warren quote ...
If you're asking me do I believe in evolution, the answer is no, I don't.
Again, I have to commend Barack Obama's choice of Rick Warren to speak at his inauguration.

Sorry Barack

Sorry Mr. President-Elect, but when you parade a bigot in front on the entire country, you should expect criticism. This is no different that parading a member of the KKK or an anti-Semite. You are better than this. At least you should be.

More About Rick Warren

The more I think about Obama's decision to use Rick Warren for his inaugural invocation, the more I see it as a slap in the face of religious progressives. There are numerous progressive congregations across this country that do not preach bigotry. There isn't one that could have been chosen?

I think it's great that Obama is trying to be all things to all people ... that he's taking his vow to be President to all people, left or right, seriously. Really, I do. What I don't understand is, what does this gain him?

Again, along as this doesn't affect policy, I'll put it behind me, but ... you know ... wow. What a missed opportunity to show another side of the progressive movement.

Rick Warren? Seriously?

If it doesn't affect the policies he supports as President, I suppose this isn't a big deal, but Barack Obama has chosen Rick Warren, celebrity preacher bigot, to deliver the invocation at his inauguration.

Well, it does matter actually. Bigotry against homosexuals is 100 percent no different than bigotry against blacks. If Rick Warren referred to being black as immoral, would he be considered for this spot? Of course not. No one from either party would touch him with a ten foot pole.

About 95% of the time, Barack Obama hits his decisions out of the ballpark. When he misses though, he misses big.
