I participated in a discussion with a few other "wanna be" bloggers and one prominent liberal blogger. He gave us some good advice.

The most important advice was about the focus of a blog. He told us that it was easy to just scribble a few personal thoughts about the news once you have a reputation, but when starting a new blog you need a point. You need to find a niche and try to do it as well as anyone else. For better or worse, the "All Purpose" blog is already done and it is done about as well as it can be done.

He had more advice as well. He said that no one should have just one blog. You need to write more so that you get better at it, and you need to write about different topics so that your brain gets a rest from the heavy stuff. He said personal blogs are fine. He recommended blogging about your favorite hobby or your family. Anything that makes you happy.

So, I needed another blog and The 8 Things needed a new focus.
