So, researchers have studied the psychological effects of abortion on women. Republicans would have you believe that every woman who has an abortion suffers deep psychological scars resulting from the decision. They would have you believe that many of these women become depressed, and some will even become suicidal. What did the study find?

No high-quality study done to date can document that having an abortion causes psychological distress, or a "post-abortion syndrome," and efforts to show it does occur appear to be politically motivated.

Well, imagine that. Republican conventional wisdom appears to be wrong. Who would have ever known this to be the case? Can you believe it? Are you shocked?

Of course, this study will be rejected. You see, they only considered data from well formed studies. They chose to reject studies that were not well done and of the highest quality. You know, those that aren't published in respected journals and whose methods and results are not made available for peer review. You know, the studies sponsored by Republican "think" tanks.
